PLOT:
Cha Jin-Wook who is played by the OH SO MANLY (Sung Hoon) is a son from a VERY wealthy family. His father is a business owner and considers himself a to be a conglomerate. He runs an extremely large and lucrative company. Cha Jin-Wook is a bit of a playboy and does not pursue long term relationships. He is also immature and spends more time having fun then working. When he meets Lee Yoo-Mi, played by the very cute (Song Ji-Eun) everything changes. They end up having a one night stand and everything CHANGES!
As a disclaimer, I watched the first episode twice. The first time as a regular viewer and the second time as a reviewer! I do warn you, I am going to be critical and MY opinion is just ONE of many opinions...so here goes.
SYNOPSIS OF EPISODE 1:
OPENER:
The drama begins in cartoon form, which I think is really cute. I always find it fascinating how cartoonists are able to draw the cartoon just like the human character. There are so many talented people out there. Episode 1 is entitled, "The One Night Relationship."
The drama opens up in a club scene. We meet Cha Jin Wook and Lee Yo Mi at the club. She is attending an after work event with her coworkers/friends and Cha Jin Wook is DJing at the club. Although they are in the same room, they never actually meet. Based off the way that Lee Yo Mi dresses, it appears that she is shy and reserved.
However, after a few drinks, she lets loose. 🍹🍹🍹
At least in her mind! lol.
Because LYM drank so much, she ends up having to use the bathroom. She cannot use it because CJW is blocking the entrance. As aforementioned, CJW is a bit of a playboy. LYM sees CJW speaking to a girl, very intimately and she misunderstands.
There will be a lot of misunderstandings in this EPISODE.This moment is the beginning of CJW'S problems. Although it is a complete misunderstanding, it shapes the way the rest of the EPISODE and drama will go.A paparazzi happens to be at the club and snaps a pic of CJW and this "Mystery Woman." His father gets so angry, he orders CJW to grow up and learn the family business. He sends him off to one of his resorts to learn the ropes and to do better at being a son and a businessman.
Things get a little tricky when they meet for the first time face to face. CJW is forced to work at the resort and must take the bus. He is not allowed to drive his expensive sports car. LYM is heading to her mother's 3rd wedding and they happen to meet by chance on this bus ride to the resort. It is a very unpleasant and awkward situation that increases the tension between these two.
When CJW arrives to the resort, he does not want to work. He is furious with his father and does not understand why his father sent him to the resort to learn the ropes. In fact, he EVEN avoids working. Coincidentally, CJW's resort is the same location that LYM'S mother is getting married so they happen to meet again. She has no clue who CJW really is and finds him incredibly attractive, but annoying.
In the meantime, CJW is being lazy and is annoyed at his father for making him work at this resort. Although his coworkers try to train him and encourage him to work, he does not want to.
He must be threatened by his supervisor to work, which speaks to his personality. He happens to be afraid of his father and does not want his father to get a bad report about him. So he "attempts to work. Meanwhile we meet LYM's mother who is a bit of a mess. She demands that her daughter wear breast inserts to give her more confidence. According to her mother, her daughter should have invited a man to the wedding. It is clear that LYM is a bit embarrassed of her mom for various reasons. For one, her mother has been married several times and just seems to be a bit of a mess. You can just tell that she is going to be a character and seems to be free in her thoughts and actions, which is a bit embarrassing for LYM.

This completely embarrasses LYM and she takes off running, leaving her mother and guests behind as they begin criticizing and talking badly about her mother. In her hurry to get away, she bumps into DREAMY CJW. Now we can see the attraction with these two as he catches her just as she is about to FALL!!!!!!
A lot of FUNNY, UNFORTUNATE, MISUNDERSTANDINGS happen as their interactions develop.
These two end up running into each other and he decides to give her a ride. They enjoy a bottle of wine on the beach. She feels as if she will never see him again so she lets loose. You can tell that he is starting to like her. The way he looks at her is just adorable.
Although this is a cutesy ROMCOM Drama, it has very mature content. I have watched many dramas in my time, but I have never seen a drama really take it there the way "My Secret Romance" does! Due to that, it has really sparked fans across the nation curiosity. In the US, we are accustomed to seeing these kind of scenes go further, but it is not that common in KDRAMA.
LYM's character is cute! She is reserved, shy, but seems a bit feisty. She has gotten comfortable with CJW pretty quickly and is determined to not let him take advantage of her. I am curious to see how the relationship develop between Playboy CJW and Shy LYM.
I have not made up my mind with how I feel about this drama and need to watch a few more episodes to make a determination. However, it has sparked my interest.
